About

Doppler Systems

In 1981, our founder David Cunningham had a vision to develop a low-cost, professional-quality radio direction finder (RDF). As a result, he started Doppler Systems, Inc. Doppler initially provided direction finders to the amateur radio community; however, private enterprises and government quickly recognized Doppler’s exceptional direction finders. Our excellent reputation has enabled us to continue serving many fields to this day…

Although the Doppler direction-finding technique has been around for some time, Dave rectified some of its shortcomings. Most notably, he created our patented smooth summing technology. Because of advances in computing, smooth summing enables us to achieve direction-finding sensitivity and accuracy that rivals more costly systems. Thus, we are now offering our fifth generation of direction finders.

During the 1990s, the US Coast Guard requested technology that would map the location of marine distress calls and identify false distress signals. In response, Dave, with friend and associate Doug Havenhill, developed map-based software that would specifically locate an RF Signal. Shortly after, the US Coast Guard installed hundreds of our fixed site systems along most coasts in the United States. Our BearingTrack software was widely used throughout the Coast Guard network and other customers benefited as well. Responding to our customers’ needs, the software has evolved into our latest software offering, TargetTrack.

In 2005 Dave and Doug formed a partnership, now known as Doppler Systems, LLC. However, in 2018 Dave decided it was time to retire and sold his portion of the partnership to Brenda Holmes. Brenda brings to Doppler over 14 years of experience in antenna and circuit design. Doug concentrates on the day-to-day operation of Doppler Systems. Brenda is responsible for the development of the next generation of Doppler Systems’ radio direction finders.
